THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC chief Mullappally Ramachandran is likely to contest the assembly elections from Vadakara. Sources close to him assess that Mullappally has a better chance of success in Vatakara as it is his home turf. There were speculations earlier that Mullappally would contest from Kalpetta. Congress sources said that he would contest from Vatakara when his name is also heard in Kodyilandy.
Mullappally had twice defeated the LDF in Vadakara Lok Sabha polls. This is the main factor that gives him the confidence to compete in Vadakara. The personal relationships and experience of Mullappally, a native of Vadakara, are favourable factors for him. His influence in some areas of the constituency was favourable in previous elections. This assessment is the reason for the motivation to field him in Vadakara.
A final decision has not been taken yet on whether the UDF will support RMP in Vadakara. RMP has also not yet commented on the matter. Reports that came in said KPCC chief himself will contest in Vadakara.
