KASARGOD: KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran had a U-turn on Sunday from his earlier stand on Oommen Chandy’s candidature in Thiruvanthapuram. Mullapally has today that he didn’t know who has started discussions on fielding Oommen Chandy in Thiruvananthapuram and under the present circumstance, there is no solid reason to shift him from Puthupally.
“Who began this discussion. From where did you got such a piece of information. What is there to discuss about a piece of news which originated from an anonymous source and what is the situation so as to shift Oommen Chandy from Puthupally?” Mullapally asked presspersons.
“Oommen Chandy is winning from Puthupally assembly constituency consecutively for the last 50 years. It is a record in Congress politics. The Kerala society has celebrated the golden jubilee of Oommen Chandy’s 50th year in the legislative assembly. I presided over that ceremony. As a person who knows about the popularity of Oommen Chandy, I don’t know who made such an irresponsible statement,” the KPCC president added further.
He also said that seat-sharing within the party and with other constituent parties was not on agenda in the talks with the high command. He stated that the party’s highest body has only asked state leaders to find the best candidates for the polls and to ensure the victory of all leaders in the poll fray.
