THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The revised price of liquor in the state has been published. The prices will go up by Rs 30 -40 per bottle from February 1. This has led to an increase of Rs 30 even for the cheapest liquor. It is assessed that this year government will get an additional revenue of Rs 1,000 crore due to the hike in the price.
Distributors were allowed a 7% increase in the base price of liquor supplied to BEVCO. The tax has proportionately increased. The price including this was published by the Beverages Corporation. The cheapest and bestselling Jawan rum full bottle which was sold for Rs 420 has been increased to Rs 450. The same liquor priced at Rs 560 per liter rose to Rs 600 per liter.
When VSOP brandy has been increased to 960 from Rs 900 and a liter bottle of Rs 950 will now cost Rs 1020. One and a half liter and two and a half liter brandy will come for sale soon. The price for one and a half liter will be Rs 1270 and Rs 2570 for two and a half liters. The price of all liquors except beer and wine has been increased.
BEVCO’s sales dropped significantly this year compared to previous years due to the lockdown and the flaws in BevQ app. When the price of liquor went up by Rs 40, the government will get Rs 35, BEVCO gets one rupee and the company will get Rs 4. The revised liquor price will come into effect from Feb 2nd as first is a holiday.
