kamandalu-

ALUVA: 'Kamandalu', which is heard in the stories of sages, has been growing at the Aluva Advaita Ashram established by Sree Narayana Gurudevan for ten years. After 'Kerala Kaumudi' reported about 'Kamandalu' tree in Rajan's house in Pangil in Thrissur's Puthur, the news of 'Kamandalu' tree which is bearing fruit in Advaita Ashram also came to light.

Advaita Ashram secretary Swami Shivaswarupananda said that an experimental curry was made using Kamandalu's fruit after realizing its medicinal value through YouTube.

About 10 years ago, a group came to the ashram to sell rare saplings, including Kamandalu. Kamandalu's sapling and Panchamukha Rudraksha were bought and planted. Both grew in Ashram's land. Kamandalu first bore fruit four years ago. The tree, about 15 feet high, still has two fruits. Rudraksha is also found on the Panchamukha Rudraksha tree. This tree is about 25 feet tall.
