NEW DELHI: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2021 in Parliament on Monday.
On Friday, the finance minister tabled the Economic Survey in Parliament. The Survey said that the economy can contract by 7.7% in the current financial year ending on March 31 and the growth could be 11% in the next financial year.
Here is a look at the highlights of the budget.
This year for the first time ever the Budget will be paperless. It will be made public online.
Sitharaman will present and read out the budget through a tab, instead of the traditional 'bahi khata'.
The finance minister was seen carrying a tablet kept inside a red coloured cover with a golden coloured national emblem embossed on it.
In 2019, Sitharaman ditched the long-standing tradition of carrying budget documents in a leather briefcase and went swadeshi with a 'bahi-khata'.
Finance minister had launched the "Union Budget Mobile App" for hassle-free access of Budget documents by MPs and the general public using the simplest form of digital convenience.
"Budget 2021 must support MSMEs, farmers and workers to generate employment. Increase healthcare expenditure to save lives. Increase defence expenditure to safeguard borders," Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted.
FM Sitharaman also announced that she would soon table a bill on Development Finacial Instituion essentially to fill the gap in long-term finance for infrastructure sectors.

Coming to vehicles, FM Sitharaman announces voluntary scrapping policy. Fitness test after 20 years for personal vehicles; after 15 years for commercial vehicles.
Sitharaman announces Rs 35,000 crore for Covid-19 vaccine. 'The government is committed to providing more funds. The Budget outlay for health and welfare is Rs 2,23,846 crore in the 2021-22 Budget. This is a 137 per cent increase,' she adds.
Government to launch Mission Poshan 2.0; Jal Jeevan Mission Urban will be launched. "The Urban Swachh Bharat scheme will be implemented with an outlay of over Rs 1.4 lakh crore," she says.
"Intend to focus on reduction of single use plastic, air pollution and segregation of waste," FM Sitharaman says while talking about Swacch bharat and swasth bharat.

Sitharaman listed the following as main pillars of Budget 2021: Health, Human capital, Innovation and R&D and Physical infrastructure.

"Today, India has two vaccines and is not only comforting citizens of her own country, but those of neighbouring nations too," Sitharaman said as she highlights the Covid-19 pandemic related efforts of the government and what the challenges are ahead. Sitharaman now quotes Tagore: "Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark," adding that this moment in history is the dawn of a new era, where India is well-poised to be the land of promise and hope". She also remembers Indian cricket team victory's in Australia.
