THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More new faces from the CPM will contest the assembly polls, said party secretary A Vijayaraghavan. Two-time contestants will not be in the fray and that is the policy of the party, he said this in an interview given to a media.

‘The CPM does not have the attitude of contesting continuously. This is the basic difference with the Congress. If one wins in the UDF then two things have to happen. He must either die or defeated. A constituency is like his own private property till then. The CPM's style is not to use the constituency as a private property. People will change naturally after a couple of times. However, experience is also important for the functioning of the government. When that happens, some will have to be given concessions,’ said Vijayaraghavan.

Vijayaraghavan accused the Congress of taking a soft Hindutva stance and allying itself with fundamentalist forces. He said the LDF will hold talks on seat allocations.

Vijayaraghavan had earlier hinted that although CPM's general policy was to keep away two time winners, those with parliamentary experience will have to be reconsidered. The party had earlier taken steps to take the list of two-time winners. If the party implements this policy strictly, many including cabinet chiefs will be out of the fray. This will adversely affect the party’s winnability in some constituencies. Therefore, there are indications that those suffering from old age and illness will be excluded and bigwigs of the cabinet and prominent figures will be fielded.
