PATHANAMTHITTA: The Devaswom Board has informed the government that 15,000 devotees should be allowed to attend the Kumbh month puja to make up for the loss of revenue in Sabarimala. The board is of the view that more devotees should be allowed from Kumbh to make up for the loss during the pilgrimage season. The government will take a decision after discussing with the health department and the police.

The revenue during this year's pilgrimage season was just Rs 21 crore. In the last year, it was Rs 269 crore. Initially, 2,000 people were permitted to the temple in the first five days of the week and 5,000 people were allowed to visit the temple during the Mandala and Makaravilak seasons. The board's financial position is in dire straits as revenue has stagnated. The government had given Rs 70 crore in the COVID context. The board has demanded another Rs 100 crore from the government. It wants to increase revenue by increasing the number of pooja days in the coming months and allowing more devotees.
