KOCHI: The verdict on the bail plea of M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to the chief minister, in dollar smuggling case will be pronounced today. The plea was considered by additional CJM Court for economic offences.

Sivasankar will be released if he gets bail today. He was granted bail in the gold smuggling case registered by the customs and in the enforcement directorate’s money laundering case.

He had asserted that the investigating team had not been able to produce any evidence against him. He also argued that only the statements of the accused in custody are against him.

However, the customs informed the court that there are strong evidences against Sivasankar in the dollar smuggling case and so bail should not be granted. The investigating team alleged that the Sivasankar has role in Rs 1.5 crore dollar smuggling.
