KOTTAYAM: Historian and state general secretary of the Aikya Mala Araya Maha Sabha, PK Sajeev, has reacted to the release of the draft law on the protection of Sabarimala custom and faith by the UDF. "No matter who makes the law, the sovereignty of Sabarimala belongs to the Mala Araya," he said in his Facebook post. There have been numerous reactions to the post, both positive and negative.
Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan released the draft law announcing that the law will be implemented when they come to power. The law provides for imprisonment for up to two years for violating the Sabarimala ritual. The draft law states that sovereignty over rituals is for the tantri.
Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that the draft will be handed over to Law Minister AK Balan. At the same time, Devaswom Board President N Vasu said that the relevance of the law cannot be understood when the Supreme Court examines all aspects of women's entry at Sabarimala. He told the media that UDF is going on about making a law on a non-existing issue. The BJP alleged that there is only a mere political drama behind the draft bill.
