IDUKKI: Vigilance has imposed a fine of Rs 82,000 on a power theft at the house of a BJP councillor in Thodupuzha municipality. This was reported by the online section of a private Malayalam channel. The theft was reportedly found at the home of Newman College ward councillor Sreelakshmi Sudeep.
The electricity was found to have stolen electricity from the power connection to the house owned by Sreelakshmi's father Kavukkattu KR Sudeep of Thodupuzha Muthaliyar Math to two other houses owned by them. The power was stolen by illegally pulling two cables without placing the meter.
The Anti-Power Theft Vigilance Squad conducted an investigation into the incident after receiving secret information. Rs 62,000 was fined for stealing electricity and Rs 20,000 as a compounding charge. But it is not yet clear when the power theft began. Currently, the law only allows for a fine of up to six months' use.
