THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM's pivotal change in Sabarimala as the assembly elections are round the corner. CPM politburo member M A Baby said they are ready to file a new affidavit if needed during trial on the review petitions related to the entry of women. He said the government would file a new affidavit if requested by the Supreme Court.
The CPM is not changing its stand due to pressure from devotees. The party can move things forward only by taking different views on issues that affect a large section of people in the society. The stand of equality everywhere will be implemented in the society step by step, he said.
If the people are not ready to accept the approach taken by the party including Sabarimala issue, will not try to force it on the people forcefully. Communists don’t have that approach. He said that if the Left government comes to power again then the Sabarimala verdict will be implemented only after reaching a consensus with all.
Meantime, the Left stands for the equality of women, he said. In the first phase, the government tried to implement the Sabarimala court verdict after it was accepted by all, including the Congress and the BJP. M A Baby, who supported M V Govindan in his reference to dialectical materialism indirectly criticized the media. He criticized the discussion and analysis for taking a part of the long speech.
Govindan Master said that in the Indian context, the Communist parties operate according to the characteristics of each country. He added that religion and belief in God are not forbidden to communists.
