protest

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as the controversies surrounding the contract appointments and illegal regularisations are heating up, the government is urgently considering files to regularise more than 2,500 temporary workers in various departments on ‘humanitarian’ grounds. It is expected to be approved in the cabinet meetings that will be held on Wednesday and next week. The move is aimed at regularising the maximum number of 'close ones' just before the election announcement.

The government seems to be moving ahead with its 'regularisation fair' as it ignores a large number of PSC job seekers intensifying their protest. Meanwhile, the opposition is planning to use the regularisation controversy as a weapon ahead of the elections. The Central Election Commission (CEC) representatives will be in the state for four days from tomorrow. Once they return, the election may be announced before the 20th. Prior to that, the regularisation issue will be settled.

As many as 1850 employees will be regularised in the Kerala Bank. Another 719 temporary employees will be regularised in other departments. Of these, there is no objection to the regularisation of 300 single teachers who have been awaiting appointment for years. However, the re-entry of the file for regularisation of 54 posts in SCOLE Kerala, which was earlier returned by the Chief Minister, will invite controversy. The ministers explained that the temporary employees who have completed 10 and 15 years are being made permanent in the name of humanity.
