THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition organisations strengthened their protests in the appointment controversy against the government. Police stopped yuva morcha’s march to the secretariat. A scuffle broke out between the police and the activists. Meanwhile, a few activists jumped the wall and entered the premises of the secretariat. They were forcibly removed by the police. Police arrested the activists including BJP women councillors.
If UDF organisations organized the protests in the state yesterday, it was BJP organizations who staged strong protests today. There was a protest led by Yuva Morcha to Kalady University. The police stopped the activists who entered inside after toppling the barricades.
The government on appointments in various departments said that temporary and contract appointments are being regularised on humanitarian grounds. Rank holders and opposition organizations are waging strong protests against this. Some had doused kerosene on their bodies and some had threatened to commit suicide by falling from top of the building. However, the government alleged that opposition groups are behind the rank holders strike.
