NEW DELHI: Prof K V Thomas, who was not in good terms with the Congress leadership, will become KPCC working president. Sonia Gandhi has approved this decision and it is learned that the high command will make the announcement soon. Meantime, However, K V Thomas said he has not got any notification regarding it.
K V Thomas, who was leaning towards the left, changed his mind after calling on Ashok Gahlot and other leaders at the Congress headquarters Indira Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. Sonia Gandhi had also contacted Thomas on the phone as part of conciliatory talks. Thomas, who withdrew from the move to leave the party, had lodged a complaint with the high command against the defaming campaign against him.
Thomas had put forward some demands like working president post or chief of campaign committee and if both don’t happen, an assembly seat for his daughter. The KPCC and the high command had assured Thomas that a decision on the post of working president would be taken soon.
A section of the state Congress was of the opinion that if he wants let him go, but the high command assessed that a senior leader leaving the party before the crucial election would be a setback for them. With this, the AICC and the KPCC met Thomas last evening and persuaded him to stay with them.
