MANGALURU: Eleven Keralite students have been arrested for ragging junior students from Kerala. The arrested were students of Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences in Mangaluru. The senior students ragged the juniors by making them shave off their moustaches and beards.
The arrested were physiotherapy and nursing students. 11 students from Kozhikode, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kasargod and Malappuram districts brutally ragged the five juniors. The juniors lodged a complaint with the college authorities after being ragged continuously for the past few days.
They ragged the juniors by making them shave off their beards and moustaches, made them measure the room with match sticks and then asked them to count it. Based on the complaint of the juniors, the college authorities approached the police. They have been charged with serious offences. A case has been registered under the newly introduced law against ragging in Karnataka. Their arrest was registered yesterday.
