KOCHI: BJP state president K Surendran said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave general instructions at the BJP's core committee meeting to garner popular support in the state. K Surendran responded by saying that he wanted the central government's welfare schemes to reach out to more people and that there should be activities needed to increase the popular base. The BJP state president was speaking after the core committee meeting.
After the core committee meeting, BJP leaders said that the Prime Minister has given instructions on the kind of activities that should be done at the organizational level in the run-up to the elections. It is learned that the Prime Minister has directed the state leaders to expand the party's base in Kerala organizationally and that is the priority.
There are indications that Modi has said that all sections should be brought into the party and that efforts should be made by the leaders regarding that.
The Prime Minister, at the core committee meeting attended by all the prominent leaders of the party, said that the BJP state unit has a responsibility to bring the welfare activities of the Centre to the people. Meanwhile, BJP National Executive Committee member PK Krishnadas said that the Prime Minister directed to work in such a way to increase the number of BJP seats in Kerala from one to 71. He said the BJP state leadership has made the Prime Minister aware of the current political situation in Kerala.
