KOTTAYAM: Responding to the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel 'Meesha', writer S Hareesh said it is proof that the Malayalam community has not completely surrendered to Hindutva. He said that this is the political significance of receiving the award and is very happy to receive it. The writer was speaking to the Malayalam online media 'Truecopy Think'.

'Meesha' won the 2019 Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for the best novel. The prizes are Rs 25,000, a certificate and a citation. The author said that the withdrawal of the novel from the magazine and its aftermath seemed to be an attempt by the Hindutva forces to bring the literary community into their fold.
