THRIKKAKKARA: The funeral of nun Jeseena Thomas (45), who was found dead at a quarry under mysterious circumstances, was held at Vijo Bhavan Cemetery here on Monday evening. DCP Aishwarya Dongre, Thrikkakkara Assistant Commissioner Sreekumar, and Special Branch Assistant Commissioner Shivankutty inspected the quarry and convent.

The nun was reportedly under severe mental trauma and according to police, convent authorities informed them that Jeseena was depressed. As per the primary assumption of the investigation team, the nun committed suicide. There are no injury marks on her body. As per the inmates of the convent, she went missing after having breakfast at 8.30 in the morning.


The nun's relatives however have denied the claim. "It is not suicide. She will not kill herself for any reason. She had blood pressure and sugar issues. But not any depression," the deceased's father said.

Jeseena's father Thomas said his daughter had sought treatment to remove a cyst from her stomach and was taking medications for diabetes and blood pressure. She used to call every day, the last call was on Saturday at noon, he added.


A case of unnatural death has been launched and the nun's body was shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery for an autopsy.


Jeseena, who joined the convent in 2018 had been residing there for the last three years. There are 12 nuns residing at the convent.
