KOZHIKODE: Due to the cancellation of backlog (NCA vacancies) in Calicut University teaching posts, 34 assistant professor posts were lost to various reservation categories.

The Vishwakarma community suffered the most losses - eight posts.

The syndicate has decided not to fill the 50 or so NCA vacancies for reserved sections in the teaching profession. All these vacancies which came up in the absence of qualified candidates will now be shifted to the open category. This is in violation of the UGC requirement that strict reservation be exercised.

Unlike PSC, all the vacancies in the teaching posts of the University are treated as one unit. Each subject is a unit in the appointment of college teachers through PSC.

If there is a vacancy in the teaching post of the University, the day should be recorded. Thus reservation should be given in the order in which it is recorded in each subject. For example, suppose the 33rd vacancy is for people with disabilities. If the vacancy is in English, a differently-abled candidate should be recruited. However, the vacancies in Calicut University are not recorded. When inviting applications for teaching posts, the notification will clearly state the subjects on which all other universities are reserved. This is not the case at Calicut University. After receiving the applications, the subjects which do not have people with reservation will be transferred to the reserved list. In this way the reserved sections will be excluded. Subjects with multiple applicants will be made open category. There are two advantages to this approach. One, hire your own people. Second, if you do not have your own people, you can ask for money and make an appointment. Either way, the reservation category is out.
