THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has responded to the protests related to the PSC rank list. Lashing out at the opposition, Pinarayi said that he was surprised that a former chief minister had come to support the agitation and asked if the former chief minister and other former ministers were unaware of the fact that an outdated list cannot be revived. While stating that the PSC candidates are holding protests in order to secure jobs, the CM accused the opposition of using the protest to make political gains.
Urging the candidates to recognise the politics of the opposition, the CM said that their demand for appointments to all those on the list was impossible. The CM also said that there was no system in place to create posts to give appointments to all those on the list. He pointed out that the regularisation took place in the posts which were not left to the PSC. He blamed the UDF for appointing daily wage employees even in the existing posts and said that the previous government had regularised 5910 temporary employees.
By any measure, the Left government has given more to the candidates than the previous government. During the term of the Left government, PSC published 4012 rank lists. On the other hand, only 3113 rank lists were published during the term of the UDF government. During the LDF government, 13825 appointments were made in the police and during the UDF government, 4791 appointments were made, the CM said.
