MALA: The state cabinet has decided to take over the Valiyaparambu Ramavilasam Lower Primary Aided School which is being run by the school employees. The school, which has 8 students, 4 teachers and 12 classrooms, is being run by management comprising school staff. On February 12, Kerala Kaumudi News had published a news about the school under the headline 'Dear Chief Minister, Save this LP School'. Locals and school authorities had submitted a petition to the government including this report. The action was taken based on these reports.
The school was started in 1929 by Rama Pai in Adooparambil on a two-acre land leased from the Diwan of Cochin. Later in 1940, the school was handed over to the staff. In 1990, there were about 250 students and 12 teachers in eight divisions. Then every year the number of children decreased.
There have been four teachers since 2007. The government pays around Rs 2.5 lakh a month for four teachers. The building is also in a dilapidated condition.
