THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is alleged that Minister K T Jaleel illegally intervened in the appointment of an aided college teacher. The complaint is that the minister directed the vice chancellor of Kerala University to appoint a Latin language teacher of St Xavier’s College, Thumpa as English teacher.
It is alleged that it was a violation of rules to convene a meeting in the minister's chamber to change the teacher's education department. The Save University Campaign Committee has filed a complaint to the governor seeking to revoke the order.
Latin Teacher and Principal of St Xavier's College, Thumpa, Thiruvananthapuram. Fr V Y Dasappan was relocated to the same college as an English teacher. The meeting of the officials of the Directorate of University, College Education and the Department of Higher Education was convened on January 7 in the Chamber of the Minister with the participation of Fr Dasappan.
Fr Dasappan holds a Master’s Degree in English, M.Phil and PhD. However, according to UGC rules, a teacher appointed in one subject cannot be shifted to another subject. The university had earlier rejected his application.
