KOCHI: High court has asked the state government whether there are any pre-existing rules to regularise temporary staff in the state government. The high court bench headed by chief justice S Manikumar has given 10 days time to the government to inform the court about it. The court’s ruling was issued on the petition filed by two Youth Congress activists questioning the regularisation of temporary government staff in public sector undertakings.

A decision on filing the petition will be taken after receiving the government’s reply. The bench also added that it will not initiate subsequent proceedings on the case now. The petition says that temporary workers cannot claim permanent regularisation. It also said that such kinds of appointments are illegal and violates constitutional principles.

The most important demand of the petition is to cancel the regularisation of 288 temporary staff in KELTRON, which was done as per the order issued by secretary of industries last month.
