THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF captured power in Pangode grama panchayat in the capital city with the support of the welfare party. The new alliance has been formed in the capital district even after the Congress leaders say they have no alliance with the Welfare Party in the state level. M M Shafi of the congress has been selected as the president.

Two members of the Welfare Party voted for the UDF. SDPI abstained from voting. In the previous presidential election, the SDPI had supported the CPM. Although the CPM presidential candidate won with the support of the SDPI, he resigned saying he does not want power.

In local body elections, a verbal dispute broke amongst the Congress leaders over their ties with the Welfare Party. When asked about it after the election defeat, the leaders' said that it was a closed chapter.
