THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the Congress and the BJP have taken up the ongoing agitation of PSC rank holders in front of the secretariat, the government has decided to halt the regularization of temporary employees as it might end up as a thorn in the election campaign. The cabinet also decided to create 3,823 posts in various departments to ensure more employment opportunities for PSC rank holders. Of this, 2,799 posts are in the health department. With this, the number of posts created by this government has crossed thirty thousand.
With the announcement of assembly elections likely to take place later this week, the cabinet has moved on to some other popular decisions. These include insurance for life beneficiaries, tax concession for buses and IT companies, and public health policy.
Up to Rs 4 lakh insurance cover is available for every household in Life. The premium for the first three years will be paid by the government. For this, 2,50,547 houses would require Rs 8.74 crore. The insurance can be renewed directly by the beneficiary after three years.
At the same time, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in the press conference that although the regularization of temporary and contract employees has been frozen, it is not being rejected. If the LDF comes back to power, regularization will continue. The CM said the decision was taken because those who misuse it should not be given a chance to use it as a weapon.
