ALAPPUZHA: A group of unidentified men allegedly robbed ornaments from a jewellery shop in Karuvatta. Initial reports estimated a loss of 25 sovereigns of gold. The robbery took place at the Brothers Jewellery near the national highway. The owner himself informed the police after receiving an alert message in his phone at 4 am Thursday morning.

The burglars broke opened the lock of the shutter under the cover of a tipper lorry parked on the roadside. Ornaments which were in the show case was lost. Police said the ornaments in the locker are safe. Although CCTV footages of a man with a hat entering the shop have been obtained, it is not clear. The Haripad police have started a probe. A similar kind of robbery was reported in a bank near the jewellery shop last month.
