THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There are indications that more people from the socio-cultural fields will join the BJP after Metro Man E Sreedharan. It is heard that the BJP is reportedly aiming P T Usha, former Indian athlete and Olympian known as Payyoli Express. Party state chief K Surendran has been assigned for it with all the blessings of the central leadership.
It is learned that P T Usha will join the BJP during K Surendran's Vijay Yatra. P T Usha was in Twitter campaign supporting central government in farmers' strike controversy. On the same day discussions on Usha's BJP interests began.
Apart from P T Usha, there is a move to bring more people from the film industry to the party. As part of this, Surendran held talks with actor Unni Mukundan. He asked Unni Mukundan to contest the assembly elections. However, he told Surendran that he has committed films and would contest in future if the party asks him.
The BJP leaders had also held talks with actress Anusree. However, she told leaders that she is not interested in entering parliamentary politics. The actor's Balagokulam relationship had stoked a controversy earlier. Talks with serial actress Nisha Sarang are also progressing.
BJP sources said discussion with actress Mallika Sukumaran is in its final stages. In the first phase of talks, she said she would not enter into parliamentary politics but would campaign for them in the elections. The party said more clarity has to be obtained in it and will officially announce the decision later.
Actors including Ramesh Pisharody, Dharmajan Bolgatty and Edavela Babu had recently attended the Aishwarya Kerala Yatra led by opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala. Soon after, the BJP activated the move by focusing on the cultural sector. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also directed to bring in more new people to the party. Sreesanth, Bheeman Raghu and Rajasenan had joined the party during the last assembly elections.
The BJP's plan is to establish influence in Kerala by bringing in more people from all fields. The party is also considering to field them in A-plus constituencies. According to local government figures, the BJP has majority in their sitting seat Nemon. Apart from that, Manjeswaram, Kasargod, Vattiyoorkavu, Thiruvananthapuram and Kazhakoottam are in the second place. The party pins hope in all these constituencies.
