THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a two-day hiatus, oil companies have again raised petrol and diesel prices. In Thiruvananthapuram, the petrol price was hiked by 35 paise to Rs 92.81 per litre and in rural areas by Rs 93.01 per litre. Diesel price in the city has been hiked by 37 paise to Rs 87.38 per litre.
Petrol price has gone up by Rs 19.82 per litre since last June; 20.19 for diesel and Rs. In 2021 alone, petrol has gone up by Rs 7.22 and diesel by Rs 7.45.
"Petrol and diesel prices are rising on the back of rising international crude prices. It will decrease slowly. Revenue from taxes has been provided through the budget to the crisis-hit areas in COVID. The decision to include petroleum products in the GST has to be taken by the GST Council," Union Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.
