THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has come up with a move to pacify the Jacobite Church which is embroiled in church dispute. The plan is to replace the ordinance with an order in favor of the Jacobite Church. This is against the backdrop of the assessment that if the church takes a stand against the government, there will be setbacks in many constituencies in Central Kerala, including Ernakulam.
Bishops of the Jacobite Church held discussions with high government officials at a meeting held at the Thycaud Guest House in Thiruvananthapuram. The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Media Commission, Bishop Kuriakos Mar Theophilos. In the current situation, the legislation will backfire on the government. Instead, an order may be issued to avoid giving up churches for the time being. If the Left government comes to power again with the support of the Jacobite Church, legislation can be brought. The move comes as the Supreme Court has ruled that the government can bring in legislation if necessary to resolve the church dispute. The plan of the left is to appease the Jacobite Church through an order. Church sources told the government that believers could not be asked to support the Left Front in the Assembly elections without doing something about the church dispute.
The House centers have replied that the proposal put forward by the government will be discussed and decision will be announced.
