THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A complaint has been raised in connection with the suicide of an office assistant in the Land Revenue Commissionerate. According to the relatives, Annie (48) committed suicide after being constantly harassed by five colleagues. Relatives and locals are demanding action against the culprits based on a diary entry found near the body. The family members have taken pictures of the note in the diary which has been taken into police custody. Police have instructed that the contents of the diary should not be released for the time being. It is learnt that the diary consists of the names of five employees.
Anchuthengu police have registered a case of unnatural death and have initiated an investigation. Annie was found hanging from the window sill of her bedroom on Saturday morning. She had been working in the Revenue Commissionerate for 13 years. Relatives said that she had been under severe mental stress for more than two weeks. She had informed her sister that she was being mentally tortured by some of her colleagues. However, Annie continued to go to work regularly. She became silent from Monday onwards and did not even show any interest in cooking food. Annie, who got separated from her husband, had been living with her son Vishnu and daughter Parvathy.
Parvathy, who returned after the PSC exam on Friday, fell asleep in another room at around 7 pm. After waking up the next morning, she went to Annie's bedroom looking for her mother. The door was locked from the inside. After knocking on the door for a long time, both Parvathy and Vishnu broke the window glass only to find Annie hanging. With the help of the locals, they broke down the door. The diary on the table mentioned the names of the employees who mentally tortured her.
The postmortem was completed and the body was cremated at 4 pm yesterday. Panchayat president Laiju and others alleged that none of Annie's colleagues contacted the family or attended her funeral even after learning about her death.
