KANNUR: Muslim League MLA K M Shaji has said that he is not interested to contest in his sitting seat—Azhikode. Shaji is interested to contest in the Kasargod district. He has informed his decision to the Muslim League’s leadership.
Shaji has also asked the League’s leadership to swap Azhikode with Kannur seat, which is currently held by Congress. Shaji has told his party that he is only interested to contest either in Kannur or Kasargod and if both seats are unavailable then he won’t contest the elections this time. However, Congress won’t be ready to give up Kannur seat.
K M Shaji, who is currently undergoing a vigilance probe, is also undergoing ED’s investigation in disproportionate assets case. Shaji has demanded a change in his constituency when the probe agencies investigation on him is going on. The Muslim League leader who is representing Azhikode for the last two terms defeated the media person and LDF candidate M V Nikesh Kumar in 2016 to get another term in the assembly.
