KOLLAM: An amazing vehicle that can run on the road, the sky as well as water- this was a childhood dream of Anand. However, that dream grew along with him. He was so obsessed with his dream that he even went on to quit his job to pursue that dream. A native of Kollam Sasthamkotta, Anand went on to develop such a fascinating vehicle and named it 'trike'. He is waiting for the patent
for this.
When the wings are mounted on the engine, it becomes a helicopter. When a fibre float is mounted on the same engine, it becomes a water boat. On attaching wheels to the same engine, it will become an open copter that runs on the road. It is also capable of taking off and landing on water. The engine of the Bajaj NS200 bike is used. The body is made of GI pipes, aluminium
sheets, steel and polystyrene.
Anand started to dream about building a helicopter as a child after getting a toy bought by his father Anandakrishnan. After completing Plus Two he went on to build a helicopter using a Maruti engine. He also holds a diploma in Marine Engineering and a degree in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering from the Regional Institute of Aviation. Though he got a job in Hindustan
Aeronautics and Reliance, he soon resigned in order to realise his dream.
It was his grandmother Kalyani who supported him to pursue his dreams. He added the surname 'Kalyani' in memory of his grandmother. He also receives constant support from his mother KP Chellamma and sister Archana.
The helicopter, named "Trike - 4", was successfully flown using a licensed pilot. He was also successful in using it as a water boat using fibre float. The experiment was also successful on the road. Rs 18 lakh would be enough to make the trike usable on three levels. He is also planning to manufacture trike on an industrial scale.
