KOZHIKODE: Some unruly scenes were witnessed at the NCP district leadership meet convened in Kozhikode to discuss fielding Minister A K Saseendran in Elathur again. State chief T P Peethambaran Master and many including Saseendran are attending the meet.

When a section demanded that two-time contestants should give chance to new faces, the other section wanted Saseendran to contest. Those opposing Saseendran directed the name of district president Mukkam Muhammed. The LDF has given three seats to the party. Of that, Thomas K Thomas will be the candidate in Kuttanad. A Muslim candidate will be fielded in Kottakkal. So, those favouring Saseendran want a Hindu candidate in Elathur.

Saseendran has contested from Elathur eight times. So they want him to stand aside this time. They are concerned that if there is a dispute, the CPM will take over the constituency.

The assessment is that Elathur will be retained at any cost, otherwise the party itself will disappear.
