PALAKKAD: 'This Is Not a Burial Its a Resurrection' won the Suvarna Chakoram (Golden Crow Pheasant) for best film at the 25th International Film Festival of Kerala. The film is directed by Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese from Lesotho, a South African country. The Rajatha Chakoram (Silver Crow Pheasant) for best director went to Bahman Tavoosi, who directed the Bolivian film 'The Name of the Flowers'. The awards were announced at the closing ceremony held in Palakkad.
The Rajatha Chakoram (Silver Crow Pheasant) for Best Debut Director (Rs. 3 lakhs) went to Argentine director Alejandro Telemaco Tarraf for the film Lonely Rock. Lijo Jose Pellissery's 'Churuli' won the Special Jury Prize and the Rajatha Chakoram for the best film selected by the audience at the festival (Rs. 2 lakhs). Veteran actress Mary Twala Longo, who played the lead role in 'This Is Not a Burial Its a Resurrection', won a special mention by the jury. Eighty-year-old Mary died shortly after filming.
Azerbaijan's 'In Between Dying' won the FIPRESCI award for best film. 'Android Kunjappan Version 5.25' directed by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Pothuval won the FIPRESCI Award for best Malayalam film. Akshay Indikar's Marathi film 'Sthalpuran: Chronicle of a Space' won the Netflix Award for best Asian film in the competition category. Akshay Indikar also won the award instituted by the Kerala Chapter of the Federation of Film Societies of India in memory of KR Mohanan, former Chairman and Director of Chalachithra Akademi. 'Musical Chair' directed by Vipin Attlee won the NETPAC award for best Malayalam film.
The festival was held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Thalassery and Palakkad for a total of 20 days. Director Adoor Gopalakrishnan was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. Chalachithra Akademi Chairman Kamal, Chalachithra Akademi vice chairperson and artistic director of the festival Beena Paul, FEFKA president and director Sibi Malayil, critic VK Joseph and organizing committee general convener TR Ajayan were present at the closing ceremony.
