The RCC in Thiruvananthapuram, the largest cancer treatment center in the Kerala, poses many difficulties to those who come from far and wide for treatment and tests. There are many hardships such as lack of experience, difficulty in finding a safe place to stay for a day, and lack of facilities for food and rest. In addition to the ailments, many of these problems are unbearable for many. There are many poor people who come for treatment by taking loans and mortgaging even their mangalsutra. The small assistance provided by the government is not enough for anything. Generous individuals and some NGOs have long been reaching out to needy cancer patients.
Among them is the Cancer Remedy Assistance Bureau (CRAB), which has been working in this field for over 20 years. 'Crab', started by a group of compassionate and philanthropic personalities, has grown to great heights and the Santhwanam (Consolation building} built by 'CRAB' at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore is being inaugurated on Sunday The three-storey building, with all the amenities, has 80 beds for the rest of the patients. Those who come as bystanders can also use the facilities here. The CRAB house is only three and a half kilometers from the RCC. Arrangements will be made to transport the disabled in vehicles. Patients will be allowed to use the CRAB house facility between 8 am and 6 pm on all days except Sunday. The food they need will also be prepared here.

The idea, which came to the mind of the philanthropist Saji Karunakaran two decades ago, has been taken up and supported by a group of generous people in various fields. Their work was absolutely exemplary. From the very beginning, those who work in the organization have been generous people. Crab's' goal is to move forward and conquer new heights with the help and guidance of many from the very beginning, including judges, politicians, doctors, media personalities and other prominent personalities. Many people from abroad have joined hands for this great cause and are also making arrangements at Crab House for cancer awareness.

In the case of cancer, treatment and caring side for is seen as a greater curse than disease itself for needy families.
It will paralyze the life of so many people. It can wreak havoc on even the most affluent middle-class families. Patients from all over the state flock to Thiruvananthapuram for the best treatment. Those who go to the hospital in the morning are examined, treated after which they can return home immediately. But if you are from far away, you will have to find a place to rest somewhere until it is time to catch your train. If your pocket is not heavy, the railway station will be the refuge. Many voluntary organizations reach out to them with a helping hand. But due to limited facilities and a high number of the needy, many do not get help.
It is in this context that the work of an organization like 'CRAB' is exemplary. More organizations like this should come up. It needs to be initiated by selfless individuals. Despite the limited facilities, Crab has so far been able to provide rest and care for more than 8,500 patients. The philanthropists behind it deserve all respect of society.
