THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shortage of vaccine has worsened in the capital city. Following that, distribution of vaccines to private hospitals have been restricted. The main allegation is that the vaccine shortage is caused by the inclusion of disqualified persons in the name of election duty in mega vaccine camps. From now on, the vaccine will be given only to 300 people daily in district hospitals and 200 in taluk hospitals.
Many including senior citizens were found returning from hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram without getting vaccine. Many who had registered online were asked to come a week later. When vaccine was denied to deserving people, many were vaccinated illegally at mega vaccination camps held at Jimmy George Stadium. Apart from Thiruvananthapuram, there is severe shortage of vaccine in Kozhikode also.
Many got vaccinated in the name of election duty and VIP duty. Authorities turned a blind eye to those who came up with recommendations. There are vaccine left only for 10,000 people. Vaccine can only be given in limited quantities on Mondays and Tuesdays. As there are only 30,000 people for election duty, it is estimated that about 60,000 people have been vaccinated under this name yesterday.
