ALAPPUZHA: CPI’s Alappuzha district committee will convene a meeting on Sunday to discuss the selection of candidates in Cherthala and Harippad constituencies. CPI leadership is puzzled over selecting an appropriate candidate to field against opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has asked CPI leadership to field a strong candidate in Harippad against Ramesh Chennithala. Even though the party is actively considering district secretary T J Anjalose for candidature, he has not expressed his willingness to contest in the polls before the party leadership yet. The party is also considering the party’s district assistant secretary G Krishnaprasad and district panchayat member A Shobha as possible candidates in Harippad.

Cherthala, where SNDP votes are crucial for both fronts, AIYF leader T T Jismon is being considered for candidature. At the same time, a section of party leaders has also demanded to field district assistant secretary Krishnaprasad from Cherthala.
