THRISSUR: Even though all the three political fronts in Kerala have not officially declared their candidates, the whitewashing of public walls is going on actively. Workers of political parties are engaged in efforts to book the walls. In certain areas, walls were booked after drawing the official symbol of the parties. When all political fronts in Kerala will declare their candidates by the end of this week, all walls in the city will witness a festival of colours in the days to come.
Meanwhile, CPM’s wall posters in the city indicate in which direction the party will steer its poll campaign. When controversies cast a dark shadow over the party and the government, CPM will use the welfare-oriented administration, Pinarayi’s popularity and witch hunt launched by the opposition and the centre against him as their arsenal in the poll campaign.
The caption of a wall poster that surfaced in MG road in the city read like this: ‘Not the son of a lord, son of a toddy tapper must rule this land again. LDF is sure. With pride, a wall painter.’ CPM leaders also say that such kinds of wall posters will be made across the state. Through this move, CPM intends to convert the casteist slur made by Congress leader K Sudhakaran into a major poll issue.
The current election ads hint that Pinarayi will be CPM’s star campaigner. Even though he became chief minister in 2016, the poll campaign at that time was led by senior leader and one of the founding fathers of CPM—V S Achuthanandan.
