THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM state secretariat is likely to finalize the list of candidates today with amendments to overcome the opposition and controversy in some districts against the draft panel, which has excluded two-term winners. New names should be added to some vacant constituencies on the basis of discussions in the district committees. At the same time, the CPM has indicated that no exemption will be given to anyone from the two-term rule, including ministers and the speaker.

In Palakkad Tharoor, PP Sumod, who was nominated by the district committee, might be considered instead of Dr PK Jameela. Then Shanthakumari may replace Sumod in the Kongad seat. The panel sent by Kozhikode district secretariat, which nominated Janathipathya Mahila Association state general secretary P Sathidevi for the Koyilandy seat, has been sent back after the state secretariat assessed that Sathidevi had no chance of victory. Based on that, Jameela's name may be accepted in Kanam.

The final panel, which will take into account the new proposals from the districts, will be approved by the state secretariat and sent to the mandalam committees for approval tomorrow. The candidates will be announced the next day with the approval of the PB.

In the Left Front, both Janata Dal (S) and INL have prepared the feasibility panel for their allotted seats. Those who are under consideration are A Neelalohitha Das Nadar (Kovalam), Mathew T. Thomas (Thiruvalla), Jose Thettayil (Angamaly), K. Krishnan Kutty (Chittoor). The announcement will be made with the approval of the national leadership.

INL state president Prof AP Abdul Wahab is likely to contest from Vallikkunnu while Ahmed Devarkovil will be the candidate in Kozhikode South. The Kasargode candidate will be decided by the district committee later.
