NEW DELHI: The BJP has announced A P Abdullakutty as its candidate in the Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency where by polls will be held along with the assembly elections. He is presently the national vice president of the BJP. The stage is set for the by polls in the Malappuram Lok Sabha seat following the resignation of P K Kunhalikutty MP. He resigned his post to contest the assembly elections.

As the LDF and the UDF are busy in the selection of candidates for the assembly elections, they have not yet announced their candidates for the Malappuram by polls. Meanwhile, the BJP announced their candidate today.

About half a dozen leaders in the Muslim League are vying for seats in the by polls. The CPM is considering SFI leader V P Sanu in Malappuram. The Athmabhimana Samrakshana Committee had today announced its independent candidate in the Malappuram by-election. A P Sadiqali Thangal is the candidate for the Self-Defense Committee. The committee was formed by a group of youths alleging that Kunhalikutty resigned for power.
