THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI will contest in 25 seats and the Kerala Congress in 13 seats in the Assembly elections. An agreement was reached in the CPM-Kerala Congress meeting held today to give Changanassery to Jose K Mani. After the division of seats, the CPI did not get a single seat in Kannur. The CPI is contesting only in the Vaikom constituency in Kottayam. Meanwhile, the CPI will not give up seats in Malappuram.
The CPI had been contesting the Kanjirapally seat for years. But when the Kerala Congress joined the LDF, it was given to them. The CPI wanted Changanassery instead. The Kerala Congress refused to accept this. The Kerala Congress demanded 13 seats. By giving Irikkur in Kannur, where CPI usually contests, the Kerala Congress got 13 seats. The CPM will contest 85 seats and the JDS four, the LJD 3, the NCP 3 and the INL 3 seats. The LDF candidates will be announced on Wednesday.
