MALAPPURAM: The Muslim League is disappointed that the routine of announcing candidates and launching a campaign earlier has gone awry due to a seat dispute with Congress. It is learned that the League has informed the AICC General Secretary in charge of Kerala, Tariq Anwar, about its concerns regarding the delay in campaign works.

The league had initially planned to announce its candidates on March 8 after completing bilateral talks. The League is usually the first party to announce candidates in the UDF. Following the change of fronts of the constituent parties, it was agreed to allow three of the extra seats to the League. It demanded Pattambi, Perambra and Koothuparamba. Although Congress agreed to give Koothuparamba and Perambra to the league, a dispute broke out regarding the Pattambiu constituency. The League believes that it has a high chance of winning in Pattambi. It planned to field Youth League State Treasurer M.A Samad as its candidate.

Meanwhile, the Congress mandalam committee has written to the KPCC asking it not to give the seat to the league. It has also launched a public protest.

An attempt is being made to announce the candidates on the founding day of the Muslim League. All the leaders are coming for the inauguration of the renovated state committee office in Kozhikode on Wednesday. The leadership is planning to announce the candidates by today afternoon. If not, the candidates will be announced tomorrow.

Though the Congress has moved to replace Kongad with Pattambi, the League has not given up. Kunhalikutty has been tasked by a parliamentary committee to secure the seat.
