OYOOR: A running car caught fire and got completely burnt down at Cheruvakkal in Kollam district on Tuesday. A tragedy was avoided after a man, who got trapped inside the car, was heroically rescued by his brother. Ajith Kumar (44) and his brother Anil (41) were travelling in the Swift car when it caught fire at around 4 pm yesterday.

The incident took place when the brothers were returning from the Paripally Medical College Hospital. The car was driven by Ajith Kumar.

According to sources, smoke arose from the front of the car when it reached near Ambalankunnu Ilavoor Church. Ajith Kumar got out of the car and went to get water from a nearby house when the fire started with a loud noise. Anil, who was in the front passenger seat, could not open the door as it was locked. Though locals gathered around the car, no one approached it out of
fear. Without sparing any time, Ajith Kumar opened the driver's side door and quickly rescued his brother. Both the brothers did not suffer any injury. The car got completely burnt when the fire force from Kadakkal and Pooyapalli police reached the spot.
