THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state leadership has replied that the party will win in at least two dozens of seats to the query of central leaders on the party’s winning possibility. Even though the party-led NDA front can present a strong triangular fight in about 60 constituencies in the state, it is determined to win at least 24 seats. Among these 24, three seats are reserved constituencies, and all three are given to BDJS.
The list includes Majeshwaram—where K Surendran lost last time for just 87 votes and Kasargod where the party reached the second position in 2016. Palakkad, where the party rules the corporation and Malampuzha, where party’s C Krishnakumar contested against V S Achuthanandan and finished second is also featured in the list. The party hopes that in Palakkad, E Sreedharan’s personality would help the party. Whereas in Malampuzha the contest will be between LDF and BJP, which is expected as a positive factor for the saffron party.
The party also hopes that it can win Thrissur if Suresh Gopi is fielded. It also hopes that it can clinch victory in the Kodungallor assembly seat, where it has put out a good performance in Corporation and Panchayat wards. In Iringalakuda, along with the traditional votes of BJP, the votes received on Jacob Thomas’s influence and a slice of Christian votes will help the party to secure a comfortable victory.
Thripunnithura is one of the constituencies in Ernakulam, where the party have high hopes. The area where the party have a strong influence in Corporation and panchayat might secure an easy win if a popular person is given candidature.
The influence of Sabarimala agitation and the traditional vote banks of BJP is the party’s strength in Aranmula, Konni and Adoor constituencies. The Pandalam municipality in the Adoor assembly constituency is being ruled by BJP.
It is after the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, that the party understood its possibilities in Vattiyoorkavu, Nemom and Kazhakootam constituencies in Thiruvananthapuram district. Last time, it was able to capture Nemom. With Sabarimala agitation, BJP’s graphs went up in Attingal and Varkala constituencies. Meanwhile, the unification of Muslim votes against BJP in these constituencies could be a decisive factor that could limit the party’s victory.
Those 24 constituencies are:
Manjeswaram, Kasaragod, Palakkad, Malampuzha, Thrissur, Kodungallur, Nattika, Iringalakuda, Pudukkad, Tripunithura, Kanjirapally, Chengannur, Mavelikkara, Konni, Adoor, Kottarakkara, Karunagapally, Chathannur, Nemam, Kazhakoottam, Vattiyoorkavu and Thiruvananthapuram.
