MALAPPURAM: Former Muslim League Grama Panchayat President has been named as the CPM candidate in Vandoor. P Mithuna, former President of Pallikkal Grama Panchayat is contesting for the CPM. Mithun won from Kozhippuram ward on a Muslim League ticket.
After two years in power, Mithuna has shown sympathy for the Left. As the President began to work with the Left, there was an unusual situation in the Panchayat with the strength of 11 members on both sides of the administration. Mithun using her casting vote in favor of the left had challenged the League and the UDF.
The problem was exacerbated by her participation in events of Left youth organizations and participation in the inauguration ceremony of drinking water attended by Minister Jaleel in violation of the League's ban. Following this, the league suspended Mithuna. She had already been in the news by giving the name of EMS to the panchayat hall ruled by the UDF.
In 2019, there were reports that Muslim League activists had assaulted Mithuna and insulted her by calling her by caste name. The assault came after a dispute over the grama sabha. Mithuna is also one of the youngest candidates in the CPM list. Jake C Thomas, Sachin Dev and Linto Jose are the other CPM candidates under the age of 30.
