THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior leaders of the Congress have expressed dissatisfaction on the discussions held in connection with the selection of candidates for the upcoming assembly polls. P J Kurien have also come to the fore along with Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala. Chandy and Chennithala complained that the high command was blocking the AICC survey report by raising group directions. They accuse that there is an effort to field K C Venugopal’s nominees. Kurien said the party’s selection of candidates is completely wrong. The things raised by P C Chacko is quite serious and everything is decided by group leaders, he said.
Meantime, Chandy and Chennithala rejected high command’s directive on swapping permanent constituencies.
The high command’s move was to field strong candidates in BJP influenced Nemom and Vattiyoorkavu. There were speculations that either Oommen Chandy or K Muraleedharan would be fielded in Nemom. When Chandy objected the proposal, uncertainty looms again. Chennithala had also informed the high command his disinterest in swapping constituencies. However, Muraleedharan said that he is ready to take up the challenge and if the party says he is willing to contest from Nemom. Most probably the congress candidates will be announced by evening.
