PALAKKAD: AV Gopinath has said that groupism will cut the roots of Congress. There must be a reorganization of the Congress. The decision to move forward without understanding the sentiments of the activists will not be accepted. Gopinath said the leaders could not understand the sorrows and hardships and that those at the helm of the party were those who knew only happiness.

Change in the party is inevitable. Groupism will kill the roots of the Congress. The activists who gave life to the Congress are in crisis. The leadership took me in another sense. Negotiations with the leaders are not going as expected. There is only slight hope now and we will wait till tomorrow night for a favorable decision, Gopinath said.

What to do when you get kicks from your own party. It's been 20 years since the people we need to stand with and protect have started walking away. So far I have not opened my mind. I cannot deceive my fellow workers. The All India leaders of Congress have been informed, he said.

Gopinath blamed the leaders for not being able to understand the sorrows and hardships and said that those at the helm of the party are those who only experienced comfort.

Gopinath had convened a meeting today to call on his supporters to decide on future plans following the delay in resolving the issue. A section of activists have made it clear that they will stand by whatever decision is taken by Gopinath. Peringottukurissi Congress Constituency Committee workers and Panchayat Administrative Committee members also attended the meeting.

The party leadership had earlier informed Gopinath that they would give him the Pattambi seat following a complaint that he had been neglected due to lack of a group. But he made it clear that he did not want to run in the election.
