ALAPPUZHA: A farmer and a housewife died after getting electrocuted from a power line that snapped due to heavy rain and wind. The deceased have been identified as Paul's wife Reethamma (Claramma - 57) and Purushothaman (77), son of Narayanan and Kalyani.
There were strong winds and heavy rain on Wednesday night. Trees were uprooted in many places. The power line to the henna plant in Reethamma's field broke but they were not aware of it. A nearby papaya tree fell on top of a scooter parked nearby.
Yesterday morning, while helping her husband to pick up his scooter, Reethamma suffered an electric shock from the broken power line. Her husband was also electrocuted when he tried to save her. Neighbors rushed the two to the hospital but could not save Reethamma. Children: Jobin (London), Reba. In-laws: Nandana (London), Aneesh.
Purushothaman, who earns by raising cows, was electrocuted when he went to mow the grass in a field near his house at 12 noon on Thursday. His sister's children went to look for him after Purushothaman failed to return and they found him dead with a broken power line. The body was taken after informing KSEB to turn off the line. The body was shifted to Alappuzha General Hospital after the South police took over. He is unmarried. Siblings: Gopi, Thankamma and Renuka.
Reethamma's funeral will be held at Poonkavu Church on Friday.
