NEW DELHI: UDF leaders on Friday announced that the seat division has been finalized. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that Congress will contest 91 seats. At the same time, he said that Congress MPs will not contest the assembly elections. Mullappally Ramachandran, Ramesh Chennithala and Oommen Chandy made the announcements regarding the candidates of the UDF allies in the wake of the announcement of the Muslim League candidates.
The leaders said that the decision on the Congress candidates for the 81 seats had been taken. However, no decision has been taken regarding the candidates in 10 seats, including Nemom. When quizzed about the candidate in Nemom, Ramesh Chennithala said that Congress will field a strong candidate in the constituency. The Kerala Congress Joseph faction will be given 10 seats, including Thrikaripur. Oommen Chandy will contest in Puthuppally itself. Perambra and Punalur will be given to Muslim League. No candidates will contest in two constituencies. Chennithala added that there is no crisis regarding the list of candidates.
The RSP will be given five seats while the NCP will be given two. UDF will support KK Rema if she decides to contest in Vadakara. The Janata Dal, CMP and Jacob group will be given one seat each. Leaders including Mullappally Ramachandran will soon return to Kerala. The leaders told the media that the list of Congress candidates would be announced in Delhi on Sunday. Mullappally Ramachandran said that it was not a trivial matter to finalize the candidates for 81 seats in an hour.
