oommen-chandy

NEW DELHI: A recent report has claimed that former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will contest from Nemom. It is learnt that Oommen Chandy has informed the Congress high command that he is ready to contest from Nemom. However, Rahul Gandhi was of the stance that Oommen Chandy will not be forced to contest from Nemom. Apart from Nemom, Oommen Chandy will also contest from his constituency Puthuppally.

The high command had earlier suggested that a strong candidate should be fielded in Nemom, BJP's lone sitting seat in Kerala. It had asked Oommen Chandy if he could contest from Nemom. It had also asked Ramesh Chennithala if he is willing to contest from Vattiyoorkavu. KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran had said that a most popular leader would be fielded in Nemom. However, on Saturday morning, Oommen Chandy announced that he would contest in Puthuppally itself after a large number of party workers turned up near his residence.
